Obituary

Francis Alfonso Rodrigues or Sonny as he was affectionately called by all who knew him was born April 29, 1938 in Georgetown, Guyana to Elva D’Oliviera and Francisco Rodrigues. By the time Sonny was 7 years old, he had lost both parents. He was the oldest and only surviving child of three children – a brother, Stephen Rodrigues and sister, Gloria Jardine, both of whom died at the tender age of 40 years old.

Sonny was the devoted husband of Ilona to whom he was married for 47 years. They are the loving parents of 4 children: Deborah Caldeira, Kimilita Abrams, Francis Rodrigues, Jr. and Mario Rodrigues and surrogate parents of Sabrina Bacchus and Alfred Seaforth.

Sonny was a well known, respected rum blender and manager of the Rum Factory at Banks DIH in Georgetown, Guyana where he worked for 25 years. In 1989, Sonny and his family migrated to Florida, where he remained for the last 20 years.

Sonny’s greatest joy was being a family man. He adored his children and was blessed with 10 grandchildren: Samantha, Jason and Jessica Abrams; Dominique and Shawn Caldeira; Shannon, Serena, Isabella, Andrew and Alexandra Rodrigues.

Beloved father-in-law of Kirk Caldeira, Colin Abrams, Dianne and Teresa Rodrigues. Son-in-law of Florence Westmaas. Brother-in-law of Cecelia Maycock, Donna Phillips, Lloyd Seaforth, Joan Rodrigues and Yvonne London. Uncle of Michelle Rodrigues Budhoo and Debbie Rodrigues Singh; Karen Tillock, Simone Rodrigues, Kevin, Joshua and Shawn Jardine; Thomas Maycock, Francine Shepherd and Tracy Jones; Compton, Jean, Errol, Keith, Tyrone, Frankie and Mark Seaforth; Nigel, Garfield, Darwin, Abdul, Timothy, Aladdin and Keta Seaforth. Nephew of Jerry D’Oliviera, Teresa Norman and David D’Oliviera. Cousin of Addie Van Sluytman, Joan Ann, Danny and Richard DeMathos, Andrew and Tony Vasconcellas, Michael DeSouza, Erica, Michael, Joey and Paul Norman.

Sonny was loved by all.
